Hydrozoning
When using plants which will require regular water it is important to group plants together in hydrozones. These areas contain plants with similar watering requirements.
The ‘drop system’ has been devised to assist with hydrozoning where:
- plants need infrequent watering,
- plants need regular or relatively frequent in summer.
- plants are water demanding,
- requiring second day in summer.
Hydro zoning is an important design concept but given the current watering regime and the likelihood of further restrictions, one drop plants are recommended.Three drop plants need to be hand watered so minimize the use of these plants.
Ideally most planting should be of species which, when established, require little to no watering.
